Another spot that I love in Brookline is the Brookline Booksmith. I can find some of my favorite books for cheap in the Used Books section, which is something that a lot of other bookstores don’t have (and I never pay full price for books, sorry.) Besides the logistics of why this is the best bookstore, it actually has the atmosphere of a real bookstore. It has the old hardware floors that creak as you walk on them, and are worn out in the areas you would expect. It actually smells like old books too (which definitely does make me sneeze sometimes). It has books really high up in places that you obviously can’t read the titles or reach, so it has the ladders to climb up on and the old librarian-type stools. They host authors to do signings and readings, and have a book club. These little touches remind me that this is a place where people are passionate about writing and books. I think that this interior space fits the personality of this business and if it were to move elsewhere - it would definitely lose some of it’s charm.
